Meet the Team

    Dr. Steven Dugan, DO

    PRESIDENT, CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, PHYSIATRIST, PM&R PHYSICIAN

    Dr. Dugan is the founder of Directed Rehabilitation Services and possesses dual Board Certifications in Brain Injury Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

    He obtained his medical degree from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, where he specialized in Physiatry and Pain Management.

    For the past 11 years, Dr. Dugan has been practicing Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in the Indianapolis area. His methodology focuses on the integration of medical management with functional enhancement, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to improve patient outcomes and overall quality of life. Dr. Dugan has a strong interest in pain management strategies, including ultrasound-guided joint injections and treatments for brain injuries, and he is skilled in utilizing Botox for managing spasticity. He has also created customized programs for amputees and has extensive expertise in prosthetics and orthotics.

    At present, he is committed to supporting patients in subacute and acute rehabilitation environments, to enhance their recovery through inpatient programming.

    Dennis Mudd, PA-C

    CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, CO-FOUNDER

    Dennis (Denny) is a Physician Assistant with almost 10 years of experience in rehabilitation medicine.

    Denny was raised in a northern suburb of Chicago as the eldest of three siblings. Following his high school education, Denny pursued Division III soccer at Marion University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where he earned the distinction of Academic All-American during his senior year. By majoring in chemistry and biology, he gained admission to the inaugural class of the Physician Assistant program at the University of Dayton, from which he graduated in 2016. After completing his studies, Denny and his wife, Dani, relocated to South Carolina, where he began his career in orthopedics. In 2021, Denny partnered with Dr. Dugan to establish Directed Rehab Services.

    Denny, Dani, and their two children, Peyton and Malcolm, along with their dog Rizzo, currently reside in Noblesville. In their free time they like to enjoy nature and spend time with family and friends.

  • Mauree Priest, MBA

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    Mauree is the Chief Executive Officer of Directed Rehabilitation Services, where she leads the organization’s strategic growth and operational excellence across rehabilitation hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. With more than 14 years of healthcare experience, including over eight years in leadership roles, Mauree brings a strong understanding of both clinical care and healthcare operations.

    Mauree began her career as a nurse, gaining firsthand insight into patient care and the critical role interdisciplinary teams play in rehabilitation and recovery. Her clinical background and leadership experience allow her to guide organizations in delivering high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services while improving operational performance and outcomes.

    As CEO, Mauree focuses on strengthening physician-led rehabilitation programs, expanding partnerships with healthcare facilities, and fostering collaborative care environments that support both patients and clinical teams. She is committed to advancing rehabilitation services that improve patient independence and long-term quality of life.

    Mauree holds a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management and an MBA from Western Governors University. She is passionate about building strong teams, mentoring healthcare professionals, and advancing innovation in post-acute care.

    Dr. Eugene Lin, MD

    PHYSIATRIST, PM&R PHYSICIAN

    Dr. Lin is a Board Certified Physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

    He earned his medical degree from Marshall University, located in Huntington, West Virginia. Following this, he completed his residency at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, he pursued fellowship training in sports medicine at the Michigan Sports and Spine Institute in Troy, Michigan.

    Since beginning his medical career in Ohio in 2006, Dr. Lin has established his practice in Columbus. He has found fulfillment in both inpatient and outpatient environments, with a particular focus on sub-acute, transitional, and long-term care medicine. Dr. Lin possesses expertise in general rehabilitation and wound care within this specialty. He values the opportunity to connect with his patients and cherishes the relationships he has developed with them and various healthcare facilities.

    In his personal life, Dr. Lin enjoys spending quality time with his family and playing guitar as part of the worship team at his church.

    Dr. Prayag Patel, Do

    PHYSIATRIST, PM&R PHYSICIAN

    Dr. Patel received his medical degree from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Northwestern Medicine-Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, where he specialized in general physiatry.

    Dedicated to the field of physiatry, Dr. Patel focuses on restoring function, improving quality of life, and helping patients to achieve their fullest potential through comprehensive rehabilitation and non-surgical treatments. Committed to a multidisciplinary team approach, Dr. Patel collaborates with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic, patient-centered care. 

    Dr. Patel strives to optimize recovery and overall well-being by diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal, neurological, and pain-related conditions. 

    In his personal time, Dr. Patel enjoys cooking and spending quality time with his dog, Oakley, and his daughter.

    Dr. Shannon Killeen, MD

    PHYSIATRIST, PM&R PHYSICIAN

    Dr. Killeen was raised in Bloomington, Indiana, where she developed a lifelong passion for the Hoosiers alongside her three brothers. She pursued studies in Biochemistry and Spanish at DePauw University, where she met her husband, Kevin.

    Dr. Killeen obtained her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, primarily training at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital with an emphasis on general physiatry.

    Dr. Killeen and Kevin are parents to a son named Patrick and are anticipating the arrival of their second child. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, spending quality moments with her family and their goldendoodle, Rosie, and actively participating in her local church community.

    Dr. Margaret Becker, MD

    PHYSIATRIST, PM&R PHYSICIAN

    Dr. Becker is a native of Bloomington, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in microbiology and then earned her medical doctorate from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

    Her resume has been cream and crimson from start to finish as she is completing a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also with Indiana University. Her husband, Aaron, is a fellow graduate of IUSM and a psychiatrist. They have one daughter.

    In her free time, Dr. Becker enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors on walks or hikes in the Bloomington area, traveling (especially to explore National Parks), and maintaining an active role in her local church.

    Morgan Kremer, PA-C

    Morgan Kremer is a Physician Assistant who earned her degree from Butler University in Indianapolis. She has a background in Endocrinology, where she honed her critical thinking abilities. Prior to this role, she served as a Certified Nursing Assistant in her hometown and is eager to reconnect with this patient demographic.

    Her primary objective is to maintain an exceptional bedside manner while enhancing patient outcomes with personalized care.

    Outside of her professional responsibilities, Morgan dedicates much of her leisure time to her one-year-old Golden Retriever, Teddy. They relish walks along the Monon Trail, socializing at dog parks, and exploring new dining options in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis.

    Karen Perry, NP-C

    Karen Perry is a Nurse Practitioner with 13 years of experience in the field. She has spent 8 years providing care in long-term care settings and 5 years specializing in addiction treatment. Karen earned her Master's degree from Ball State University.

    Her primary focus is on improving patient outcomes through the provision of efficient, compassionate, and personalized care tailored to each individual.

    Karen aspires to take on a leadership role within the rehabilitation sector, where she aims to mentor her colleagues and advocate for ongoing enhancements in care delivery to maximize patient satisfaction and outcomes. An interesting fact about Karen is that she began her professional journey by delivering pizzas in San Francisco and experienced the significant earthquake there in 1989.

    Morgan Mockbee, PA-C

    Morgan Mockbee is a dedicated Physician Assistant with six years of experience caring for a diverse patient population. She is known for her empathetic approach, strong communication skills, and commitment to advocating for both patients and their families.

    Morgan strives to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care.

    Outside of work, Morgan enjoys exploring the outdoors with her son and family. She looks forward to being a part of the team and continuing to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

    Michala Hirl, AGNP-C

    Michala Hirl is an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner with an advanced degree from Indiana University Indianapolis. She began her healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant in long-term care, inspiring a passion for compassionate, patient-centered care. After earning her BSN from Indiana University Kokomo, she worked as an RN at a Level I county hospital in Indianapolis, serving a diverse and often underserved population. This experience deepened her commitment to health equity and holistic care.

    Michala is dedicated to supporting individuals across the lifespan, bringing both clinical expertise and empathy to her practice. Her personal and professional journey informs her thoughtful, and inclusive approach to patient care.

    Outside of work, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

    Jennifer Barnes, FNP-C

    Jennifer Barnes is a Nurse Practitioner with 28 years of professional experience, comprising 14 years as a nurse and 14 years as a nurse practitioner.

    She completed her education at Ivy Tech, where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse certification, followed by an Associate Degree in Nursing from Excelsior College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University. She was a member of the National Honor Society of Nursing and has also worked as an Optometry Technician during her nursing education.

    She aspires to maintain optimal health for as long as possible and to remain committed to helping others. While she enjoys traveling, her favorite place to relax is her porch.

    Cynthia Teyou, AGNP-C

    Cynthia Teyou is a dedicated Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in adult and geriatric care. Over the past five years, she has specialized in the management of complex chronic conditions across acute, post-acute, and long-term care settings. She earned her Master’s degree from IUPUI and brings a patient-centered, compassionate approach to every aspect of her care.

    In her role with Directed Rehabilitation Services, she serves as a provider in sub-acute facilities, supporting patients in achieving meaningful functional recovery and improving overall quality of life. Cynthia is committed to helping patients regain mobility, optimize physical function, and navigate recovery following illness or injury. 

    Outside of work, Cynthia enjoys traveling with her seven-year-old son and creating new experiences together. She also loves live music and enjoys exploring local music venues whenever she can.

    Shelby Willhoite, Medical Assistant, Scribe

    Shelby has dedicated over five years to her role as a medical scribe, where she assists physicians and nurse practitioners by accurately and efficiently documenting patient interactions.

    Her commitment lies in enhancing workflow for healthcare providers, allowing them to prioritize patient care over administrative responsibilities.

    In her personal life, Shelby enjoys a variety of activities, including reading, watching sports, and delving into true crime stories, as well as listening to podcasts. A devoted fan of Indiana sports, she particularly supports the Pacers and Colts. Additionally, racing holds a special place in her heart, with a strong enthusiasm for IndyCar and NASCAR, and she cherishes her visits to the renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Shelby also values quality time with her family and friends, along with caring for her pets, Emmy, Louis, and George.

    Kari Tewell, Medical Assistant, Scribe

    Kari serves as a Medical Assistant/Scribe for Directed Rehab Services. She obtained her medical assistant certification in 2003 from PCI and has over 15 years of experience working as a medical assistant and nail technician at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

    Kari is married and is the mother of two young men. She takes pleasure in spending quality time with her sons and their family dog. Additionally, she enjoys watching true crime shows and listening to podcasts while unwinding at home.

    An interesting fact about her is that she and her husband share the same birthday and were born in the same city, just a few miles and hours apart.
